Kiss kiss, bye bye.
Nearly a month after the Season 4 finale of Mythic Quest and just one week after the show was canceled by Apple TV+, a new updated finale has hit the streaming service and offers up a neatly packaged final episode, as opposed to the original Season 4 ending.
In the original episode that began streaming in March, the final moments saw a controversial kiss between Ian Grimm (Rob McElhenney) and Poppy Li (Charlotte Nicdao), which divided fans of the comedy. While many were on board with the smooch after half a decade of a “will-they wont-they,” others were strongly opposed to breaking from the platonic friendship dynamic.
In the new version of the finale, rather than pulling Poppy in for a kiss after she returns from the airport, Ian and Poppy hug and decide to get back to work, firmly solidifying that they were never meant to be more than best friends and work partners, codependent as they may be.

At the time of the show’s cancellation, the executive producers — Megan Ganz, David Hornsby, and McElhenney — announced that in the wake of the show ending prematurely, they would be re-editing the Season 4 finale to serve as a proper goodbye.
“Endings are hard. But after four incredible seasons, ‘Mythic Quest’ is coming to a close,” said Ganz, Hornsby, and McElhenney. “We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us.”
“To our partners at Apple, thank you for believing in the vision from the very beginning. Because endings are hard, with Apple’s blessing, we made one final update to our last episode—so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over,” their statement concluded.
It’s not the most surprising change, especially since, when Decider sat down with Nicdao in March to discuss the kiss and the then-season finale, she said she thinks the two characters knew that they crossed the rubicon.
“I don’t think either of them think that was a good idea,” Nicdao said. “And I don’t think either of them thinks that this is about to lead into some beautiful, whirlwind romance. I think both of them know that they, excuse my language, fucked up.”
Mythic Quest was one of the first shows to premiere on Apple TV+ back in January 2020 and was renewed for a second season prior to its premiere. The series — which also stars Danny Pudi, Jessie Ennis, Imani Hakim, Ashly Burch, and Naomi Ekperigin — followed a group of employees at Mythic Quest Studios, a video game making company led by Ian and Poppy. In 2021, the show was renewed by Apple TV+ for a third and fourth season, with the installments releasing in 2022 and 2025, respectively. Additionally, the streaming service just dropped a four-episode anthology series, Side Quest, as a spin-off from the original.
